Meet the Owners
Larry and Terry Meek are the owners of Carefree Home Watch and will be your day to day contacts. We are seasoned professionals and Community Association Managers licensed by the State of Florida with firsthand experience in property management and hurricane recovery during Hurricane Irma and other natural disasters.
The concept of creating our home watch business started in September 2017 while working as Licensed Community Association Managers in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. We were managing nine homeowner and condominium properties with over 1400 doors. We were “boots on the ground” the day after the hurricane assisting hundreds of absentee owners seeking information about damages to their homes, condominiums and investment properties. Many owners had neighbors, friends, non-professionals or (even worse) nobody looking after their property.
When Hurricane Irma arrived, most of these “hobby home watchers” abandoned ship to take care of their own property and/or left the area, not returning for many days. During their absence the reality of dealing with removal of soaking wet carpets, furniture, flooring and wet sheet rock — not to mention spoiled food in refrigerators and freezers was the sole responsibility of the owners who were most likely residing in other areas of the country and could not even get to their vacant residence.
Most owners had no relationship with local vendors that they could call to assist in evaluating damages and marshaling resources to facilitate damage control. We decided then to form our own company and to provide professional services in home watch.
We prepared for this challenge becoming National Home Watch Association Certified Home Watch Professionals and professionally trained with the nationally-recognized training organization, Your Home Watch Professionals. The result is the creation of Carefree Home Watch.
Larry’s exemplary customer service ethic was developed while he was with Fortune 500 companies, several who earned the JD Powers Distinguished Service and Excellence Awards. While he was President & CEO of a wholly-owned subsidiary of a publicly-traded financial services company he learned the importance of (fiduciary responsibility) in building trust and relationships. His early work history included owning a construction company and he comes from a family line of electricians and plumbers which provides him an experienced edge over many of his competitors. Since moving to Florida in 2014 he has become a Licensed Community Association Manager (LCAM) by the State of Florida and has managed multiple properties with over 1400 residences. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Promenade at the Forum Homeowners Association for two terms as a director and treasurer.
He also holds Lee County Emergency management Certificates for Shelter Basics, Fundamentals and Shelter Management, and a FEMA Certificate IS-00394–Protecting your Home or Small Business and is a Certified Home Watch Professional of the International Home Watch Alliance and National Home Watch Association.
Terry’s proactive approach to customer service was developed while working in the advertising agency industry working with many companies in the financial services sector where customer service and trust was always Job One!
Her pet peeve is people who don’t return calls and/or email, so you can be sure we will respond to you with timely updates and answer any questions regarding your home. In fact, we promise to respond directly to every client’s telephone call, recorded voice message, text or email by close of business Monday-Friday at 5 p.m. or by the end of the next business day if the contact is made on the weekend or after 5 p.m.
Terry is a Florida Licensed Community Association Manager (LCAM), holds a Certificate for Shelter Basics with Lee County Emergency Management and is a Certified Home Watch Professional of the National Home Watch Association and International Home Watch Alliance. In addition, she received professional training by Your Home Watch Professionals.
